Thompsons Coupling

FINALLY. A meeting after a long time.Apparently a lot of people were excited about this new type of coupling Harish came across on the net. Actually,it is absolutely awesome,but kind of sad that we will not be able to use it. Oh! and check out the video!! Its really cool!


The Thompson coupling is a type of universal joint that, unlike traditional universal joints, has true constant velocity between the drive and driven shaft. It consists essentially of two universal joints assembled coaxially and therefore also incorporates an advantage of the universal joint, no load bearing sliding surfaces. The Thomson coupling is the first constant-velocity coupling to have this property. The elimination of sliding surfaces is claimed to reduce energy losses, and improve longevity compared to constant-velocity joints. According to its inventor, Glenn Thompson, the coupling uses about 8 per cent less energy than an equivalent system.

The second tym we met!

Now after quite a long time we had our Second meeting. And boi wat a meeting it was! Pure pandemonium prevailed. But alas we did get something accomplished! Everyones work has been cut out for them.Thilak was the star of the show getting us the place to work and a big list of sponsors!! Oh...and I think we also got some idea's on the design on the suspension and Chassis part!! if anything more happens i will keep u posted! keep chieckin this space for Updates[:D]

The Beginning of Dirt Slingers®

Finally we have have set things moving and the balls rolling! The team has been formed,the name decided and the Resume sent.A engineers dream come true! We have decided on the team name has been decided to be Dirtslingers!


For those who have no idea wat i am talkin abt it is The SAE BAJA challenge.Mechanical design, as classically taught in engineering has centered around the application of stress analysis theory. While this theory is important, actual industrial design is generally dependent upon manufactureability, time constraints, and cost constraints AS WELL AS stress analysis. With this in mind, the SAE Baja competition has grown to become a premier engineering design series.These are held annually under the sponsorship of SAE.
